Dumoine River Canoe Trip

Rapids that test you and a mystique you can’t quite put into words.

Six days and thirty-nine rapids on the Dumoine River.

The Dumoine River cuts through the wilds of western Quebec, one of the last free-flowing tributaries of the Ottawa River, and a place where wilderness still feels raw. Once a route of the Anishinaabe and early fur traders, it’s now a playground for those chasing solitude and whitewater in equal measure.

We put in at Bridge set, and jumped into whitewater on day one, running fifteen sets, including the aptly named Canoe Eater. Five days followed in a rythm only a river can create, with whitewater, calm stretches, hidden waterfalls, and quiet moments that reminded me why I chase wild places in the first place.
